Tottenham and Leicester, both picked up 3 points yesterday, beating West Brom and Wolves respectively. A Kevin De Bruyne missed penalty made all the difference as Man City ended up drawing 1-1 to Liverpool. In German football, Leonardo Bittencourt’s late penalty helped salvage a point for Werder against Koln. The match ended 1-1 leaving Werder 10th in the table. Bruno Labbadia’s Hertha beat Augsburg 3-0 in convincing fashion. Sabitzer, Konate and Angelino were all on target as Leipzig went on to win 3-0 against Freiburg. Union Berlin thrashed Arminia 5-0 to record their largest victory in recent years. Der Klassiker ended 3-2 to Bayern over Dortmund, with Alaba, Lewandowski and Sane all on the scoresheet. Then, goals from Steffen and Weghorst were enough to lead Wolfsburg to a 2-1 win against Hoffenheim.
In Spain’s top football division, it was a mixed bag for the top teams. Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-2 at the Camp Nou. Lionel Messi’s introduction at half time changed the game in Barcelona’s favour. Messi, along with goals from Griezmann, Pedri and Dembele were all on target for Barcelona. Then, Atletico Madrid won 4-0 against newly promoted Cadiz. With goals from Joao Felix, Suarex and Llorente, Atletico Madrid won the game convincingly. Their city rivals, however, were not so lucky. Carlos Soler scored a hat trick of penalties as Valencia sank Real Madrid. No one could see the 4-1 rout coming. Levante and Alaves played a 1-1 draw. Sevilla won 1-0 against Osasuna, with Ocampos on the scoresheet.
Joao Pedro and Nahitan Nandez hit the net as Cagliari sank Sampdoria 2-0. A Nzola brace along with a Pogeba goal helped Spezia on their unlikely win vs Benevento. Lazio played Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico. This game ended in a 1-1 draw. Cristiano Ronaldo took the lead for Juventus in 15 minutes however, Felipe Caicedo equalized in injury time. Then, Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first hattrick for Roma as they beat Genoa 3-0. Inter Milan continue their frustrating season with a draw against Atalanta. Victor Osimhen was on target as Napoli beat Bologna 1-0. AC Milan drew 1-1 against Verona. They still are at the top of the table with 17 points, that is 2 points ahead of the closest runners, Sassuolo.
