The Premier League had some exciting games but also had some games that were hard to get through. For instance, Leeds went away to Aston Villa and beat them 3-0, courtesy of a Patrick Bamford hat trick. West Ham pulled off an unlikely draw against Manchester City. Manchester United vs Chelsea did not provide much in terms of excitement, ending 0-0. Liverpool pulled off a win against Sheffield United, beating them 2-1, whereas Everton couldn’t maintain their unbeaten streak, losing 2-0 to Southampton. Arsenal lost to Leicester courtesy of a Jamie Vardy goal.
In the Italian top flight, Sassuolo vs Torino was an exciting match, with it ending all square at 3-3. Atalanta continue their woeful form with another loss, this time at the hands of Sampdoria. Inter are trying to close their gap with AC Milan, and won their game by 2 goals to none against Genoa. Lazio won their game against Bologna, with the ever reliable Immobile getting on the scoresheet again. Cagliari beat Crotone 4-2, whereas Napoli beat Benevento 2-1. Juventus had a uncharacteristically hard game against Verona, drawing the game 1-1.
In the Spanish first division, the day started with Elche notching up a 2-1 win against an uninspiring Valencia side. Then, El Clasico ended up being a one sided affair with Real Madrid emphatically winning 3-1 against Barcelona. Osasuna beat Athletic Club 2-1 while Sevilla lost 1-0 to Eibar. On Sunday, Atletico beat Real Betis 2-0 and Alaves won 2-0 against Real Valladolid. Villarreal drew 0-0 to Cadiz in a snoozefest.
Stuttgart and Koln started off the German football weekend with a 1-1 draw. A Robert Lewandowski hat trick gave way to a 5-0 defeat against Bayern for Frankfurt. Leipzig continue their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win against Hertha Berlin. Then, Dortmund defeated rivals Schalke 3-0 courtesy of goals from Akanji, Haaland and Hummels. On Sunday, Wolfsburg beat Arminia 2-1 whereas Bremen and Hoffenheim drew 1-1.
Ligue 1 started off with Rennes registering their first defeat of this season by losing to Angers, 2-1. Marseille unsurprisingly won 1-0 against Lorient. PSG, as expected, completed their rout of Dijon by winning 4-0. 2 goals each from Moise Kean and Kylian Mbappe were the difference. Later in the day, Bordeaux beat Nimes 2-0 and so did Metz against Saint-Etienne. Stade Reims convincingly beat Montpellier 4-0. At Last, Nice and Lille had a fiercely contested game end in a 1-1 draw which was a fair result given the balance of play.
