Boxing day fixtures always bring excitement to football fans all around the world. This year’s fixtures, did not disappoint. This is our review of the last weekend’s football fixtures.

Premier League

The PL started off with Leicester City and Manchester United drawing 2-2. A Jamie Vardy strike and an own goal cancelled out Rashford’s and Fernandes’ goals. Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace even though they had only 10 men on the field. Arsenal ended their 7 game losing run with a win against Chelsea. Goals from Gundogan and Torres helped City to a 2-0 win over Newcastle. Everton beat Sheffield United 1-0, and so did Leeds against Burnley. West Ham drew 2-2 against Brighton. The Premier League ended with two draws. One was Liverpool drawing against West Brom, and the other was Wolves drawing against Tottenham.


Bundesliga’s weekend started off with an upset. Union Berlin beat Dortmund 2-1. Kramaric’s and Sessengon’s goals helped Hoffenheim beat 10 man Monchengladbach. Arminia piled on Schalke’s misery with a 1-0 win against them. A goal from Dincki helped Werder Bremen sink Mainz 1-0. Two goals from Robert Lewandowski helped Bayern to best Leverkusen 2-1. SC Freiburg thumped Hertha Berlin 4-1. And finally, Wolfsburg beat Stuttgart 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Josip Brekalo.

La Liga

Elche and Osasuna started off La Liga with a 2-2 draw against each other. Sevilla beat Valencia 1-0 with a goal from Suso. Goals from Hermoso and Llorente led to Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Barcelona beat Real Valladolid 3-0. Goals came from Clement Lenglet, Martin Brathwaite and Lionel Messi. Villarreal drew 1-1 against Athletic Club. Goals from Casemiro and Benzema helped Real Madrid beat Granada 2-0.

Serie A

Serie A kicked off with Crotone’s 2-1 victory over Parma with both goals from Junior Messias. A 10 man Juventus got emphatically beaten by Fiorentina with the team from Florence winning 3-0. Lautaro Martinez was on target as Inter Milan beat Verona 2-1. Atalanta and Bologna played to a 2-2 draw. Milan vs Lazio was a thrilling encounter with the game ending 3-2. Theo Hernandez’s last minute goal was the difference between the two teams. Napoli and Torino drew 1-1. Benevento beat Udinese 2-0 with goals from Caprari and Letitzia. Roma beat Cagliari 3-2 to end the Serie A weekend.
