Another football game week has passed us by, and unsurprisingly, it had it’s fair share of upsets and results. Let’s look at the matches played this weekend and how your favourite team fared.

Premier League

The PL game week started with West Ham beating Leeds 2-1 away at Elland Road with goals from Ogbonna and Tomas Soucek. Wolves v Aston Villa was a heated affair with both the teams receiving red cards. A late Anwar El Ghazi penalty helped Villa get the three points. Newcastle beat minnows West Brom 2-1 whereas Manchester United vs Manchester City was a dull, drawn out 0-0 draw. Chelsea lost to Everton courtesy of a Sigurdsson penalty. Liverpool almost lost to Fulham, but ended up drawing 1-1 thanks to a Mo Salah penalty. 10 man Arsenal lost to Burnley at home 1-0 thanks to an Aubameyang own goal.

Bundesliga

Wolfsburg kicked off the Bundesliga with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Stuttgart handed Dortmund their biggest defeat in a very long time with a 5-1 trashing at the Signal Iduna Park which led to Dortmund sacking coach Lucien Favre. Goals from Sabitzer and Olmo helped Leipzig come ahead in their clash against Werder Bremen. A goal each from Matteo Guendouzi and Breel Embolo resulted in a 1-1 draw between Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin. A Lewandowski goal cancelled out Grischa Promel’s strike in the first half to result in a 1-1 draw between Union Berlin and Bayern. Augsburg v Schalke ended 2-2 whereas Leverkusen v Hoffenheim ended 4-1 in favor of Leverkusen.

Serie A

Sassuolo kicked the Serie A game week off against Benevento in a game that ended 1-0. Crotone beat Spezia 4-1 whereas Udinese beat Torino 3-2. Goals from Lukaku, Barella and D’Ambrosio helped Inter beat Cagliari 3-1. Lozano and Petagna helped Inter cruise past Sampdoria 2-1. Atalanta beat Fiorentina 3-0 whereas Roma crushed Bologna away with a 5-1 victory. Paulo Dybala scored and Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for a 3-1 Juventus victory over Genoa. Theo Hernandez saved a point for AC Milan against Parma with two goals in the second half. The game ended 2-2.

La Liga

La Liga began with Real Valladolid playing a thriller against Osasuna with the match ending 3-2. Valencia drew 2-2 against Athletic Club. Sevilla beat Getafe 1-0 and so did Huesca, against Alaves. A goal from Casemiro and an own goal from Oblak was enough to see Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 2-0. Sociedad v Eibar ended in a 1-1 draw. Real Betis v Villarreal also had the same result, ending 1-1. A goal from Luis Suarez helped Granada beat Elche 1-0. Messi finally scored a goal from open play to help Barcelona come out on top in their game against Levante, which ended 1-0.
